Llanos de la Concepción

Aventura Mirador Turismo rural

A peaceful rural village in the heart of Fuerteventura

Llanos de la Concepción is a small town in the municipality of Puerto del Rosario, located west of the capital majorera, along the FV-30 road, the axis that connects Puerto del Rosario with Betancuria and other historical centers of the interior of the island. This town retains a strong rural character and a leisurely pace of life, with a small population of just over three hundred inhabitants, making it an ideal place to discover the most authentic Fuerteventura.

History and origin

Until the end of the 18th century, the village was known as Llanos del Otro Valle or Llanos de Santa Inés, in reference to its proximity to the valley of the same name. The definitive change of name came with the construction of the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, built between 1784 and 1796 and consecrated in 1798. Since then, the Marian dedication gave identity to the village, consolidating it as a small agricultural and religious enclave in the interior of Majorero.

Heritage and places of interest

The main heritage reference of Llanos de la Concepción is the Hermitage of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción, a temple of simple and sober architecture, with three-sided nave and side belfry, representative of the rural churches of Fuerteventura. Built with the direct involvement of the neighbors, the chapel has been, since its origin, the spiritual and social center of the village.

The environment also preserves vestiges of the agricultural past, such as traditional windmills, which remind us of the importance of cereal cultivation and the production of gofio in the local economy. These elements are part of the cultural landscape that defines the interior of the island.

Landscape and natural environment

The town sits in a wide fertile valley, relatively protected from the trade winds by the surrounding hills. This condition historically favored the development of agriculture and human settlement. The landscape, open and serene, invites you to stroll among the fields, observe old gullies and enjoy the tranquility of the Majorero countryside.

Llanos de la Concepción is also a good starting point for hiking and cycling routes, which run through ravines, gentle hills and old rural roads, connecting with other inland enclaves such as the Santa Inés Valley or the areas near Aguas Verdes.

Festivals and traditions

The patron saint festivities in honor of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, held every August 15, are the main festive event of the town. During these days, Llanos de la Concepción is full of life with religious events, festivals, pilgrimages, cultural activities, music and neighborhood gatherings that reflect the strong sense of community and hospitality of its inhabitants.

Access and visit

Llanos de la Concepción is located about 18 kilometers from Puerto del Rosario, with easy road access. Its inland location, away from the tourist bustle of the coast, makes it a perfect destination for those who want to know the rural Fuerteventura, its agricultural history, its religious heritage and the quiet essence of the inland villages.

To visit Llanos de la Concepción is to enter a landscape of calm, tradition and memory, where time seems to move at a different pace and the Majorero identity is kept alive.
