Los Molinos Ravine: A Natural Oasis in Fuerteventura

The Barranco de Los Molinos is one of the most striking natural sites of Fuerteventura, offering a striking contrast to the arid landscape characteristic of the island. This ravine is home to one of the few permanent watercourses on the island, creating a unique ecosystem that attracts diverse bird species and more exuberant vegetation than usual in the region.

Hiking Route

One of the most recommended activities is the hiking route that runs through the ravine from Puertito de Los Molinos to the reservoir of the same name. This circular route of approximately 14 kilometers allows hikers to enjoy breathtaking landscapes and observe the local fauna in its natural habitat. It is important to note that, in order to protect the birds during their breeding period, access to the ravine is restricted between February 15 and July 31.

Los Molinos Reservoir

In the upper part of the ravine is the Los Molinos Reservoir, a construction that, although originally intended for agricultural irrigation, has contributed to the creation of a microhabitat that favors local biodiversity. The reservoir and its surroundings are ideal spots for birdwatching, especially for ornithology enthusiasts.

Recommendations for Visitors

  • Visiting Season: To ensure the protection of the birds during their breeding period, it is recommended that visits be planned outside the interval between February 15 and July 31.
  • Equipment: It is advisable to bring appropriate footwear for uneven terrain, sun protection and sufficient water, as there are no toilets available on the route.
  • Respect for the Environment: Keeping the environment clean and avoiding disturbing the local fauna is fundamental for the conservation of this natural space.

The Barranco de Los Molinos offers a unique experience for those who wish to connect with nature and discover a different side of Fuerteventura, away from the crowded beaches and tourist areas.
