Jarubio Beach
Jarugo or Jarubio beach: a wild paradise on the west coast of Fuerteventura.
Located on the west coast of Fuerteventura, between the Puertito de Los Molinos and the imposing landscapes of Tindaya, Playa de Jarugo -also known as Playa de Jarubio- is one of the most spectacular and least altered natural enclaves of the municipality of Puerto del Rosario. Its isolated character and rugged surroundings make it a destination especially valued by those seeking tranquility, privacy and direct contact with nature.
The beach has an approximate length of between 230 and 280 meters and an average width of around 40 meters, although these dimensions vary depending on the state of the tide. It consists of fine sand, in shades of ochre and brown, and is protected by volcanic cliffs that reinforce the feeling of isolation and enhance the beauty of the landscape.
As it happens in great part of the west coast of the island, the sea here is usually rough and changeable. The majoreros know this coastal strip as the North Sea, in reference to the strong waves that lash this area open to the Atlantic. For this reason, bathing can be dangerous at certain times of the year and extreme caution is always recommended. Even so, these conditions make Jarugo is appreciated by surfing enthusiasts and those who enjoy watching the strength of the sea in its pure state.
One of the most unique elements of Jarugo Beach is the natural breakwater located at its left end. On windy days with strong waves, this point becomes a real visual spectacle, with the waves breaking intensely against the rock. If you cross this dike, especially at low tide, you can access a small secluded cove, even more secluded and quiet, ideal for those seeking greater privacy.
Jarugo is also one of the most frequented beaches by nudists on the island, thanks to its isolation, amplitude and absence of buildings. It has no tourist services, lifeguard or infrastructure, which reinforces its virgin character and makes it essential to come well prepared, with water, sunscreen and everything you need for the visit.
Access by vehicle is preferably from the village of Tindaya, through dirt tracks in good condition, which adds a component of adventure to the journey and allows you to enjoy the rural and volcanic landscapes of the northern interior of Fuerteventura.
Jarugo or Jarubio Beach is a place to contemplate, listen to the sea and understand the strength of the majorero landscape. A wild and authentic corner that summarizes like few others the most natural and less domesticated essence of the island.
