How to get here and get around

Puerto del Rosario is the gateway to Fuerteventura: the airport, ferry and cruise port, and the guagua (bus) station connecting to the rest of the island are all here. This page covers how to get here and how to get around once you arrive.

Arriving by plane

Fuerteventura Airport (FUE) is in El Matorral, within the municipality itself, about 5 km from the center: about 5 minutes by car.

  • By guagua: lines 3, 10, and 16 of Tiadhe stop at the terminal, on floor 0, next to Departures. The most frequent is line 3 (Puerto del Rosario – Caleta de Fuste – Las Salinas), with several departures per hour from Monday to Saturday between 6:00 AM and 11:00 PM, and fewer on Sundays and holidays. Not all departures go through the airport: check the line schedule before you go.
  • By taxi: the official taxi rank is on floor 0, next to Arrivals, and operates 24 hours. Only use the marked rank.
  • By rental car: the main companies have counters on floor 0, next to Arrivals.

Arriving by boat

  • From Gran Canaria: Baleària Canarias (formerly Naviera Armas) connects Las Palmas de Gran Canaria with Puerto del Rosario on an overnight crossing of about 6 hours and 15 minutes, with one daily departure from Sunday to Friday. Board 40 minutes before departure. If you prefer a shorter crossing, there are ferries from Las Palmas to Morro Jable (about 2 hours, with Baleària or Fred. Olsen); from there, guagua lines 1 or 10 will bring you to Puerto del Rosario.
  • From Lanzarote: ferries depart from Playa Blanca and arrive in Corralejo in 25 to 35 minutes, with Baleària and Fred. Olsen and several departures per day. From Corralejo, guagua line 6 reaches Puerto del Rosario.

Arriving by cruise ship

Cruise ships dock at the cruise pier in Puerto del Rosario’s port, right next to the center. From the gangway you can walk to Avenida Marítima, the El Charco shopping area, and Calle Primero de Mayo. The Tourist Office can advise you on what to see during your stopover. Other options include the tourist train and the Sculpture Park, with outdoor sculptures scattered around the city.

Getting around the city

  • On foot: the center is compact and easy to explore on foot. Avenida Marítima runs along the sea next to the port and the El Charco area.
  • Urban guaguas: lines 2, 3, and 3S run through the city; line 3S goes as far as La Hondura and Playa Blanca. They are operated by Urbanos Puerto del Rosario: at urbanapuertorosario.es you can see where each guagua is in real time. Contact number: +34 928 121 301.
  • Taxi: the municipal service Puerto Taxi can be reached at +34 828 111 999, via WhatsApp, and through its app. At puertotaxi.com you’ll find a fare calculator. There are no Uber or Cabify-type services in Fuerteventura. More details and ranks at Taxis in Puerto del Rosario.

Getting to other parts of the island by guagua

Tiadhe’s intercity guaguas depart from Puerto del Rosario’s guagua station (phone +34 928 855 726). Approximate frequencies from Monday to Saturday; fewer services on Sundays and holidays.

In summer, the trade winds blow stronger from the northeast: they cool things down, but it’s worth keeping in mind at the beach. Before swimming, check the flag and sea conditions at Beaches today.
